Further, with recognition in the form of a certificate or plaque, the employee will want to add these to his collection of accomplishments. When an employee feels a sense of accomplishment, he will only want to do better as time goes on.
When you ask employees what they would like as a form of recognition, they will usually say that they prefer money. It is the first thing that comes to their head. It is the thing that they can actually use to help feed their families easier. However, it is not something they will hold onto. It is not something they will even have the very next day. And it will be forgotten.
Employees are not robots. They have feelings, and needs, and families. When you reward an employee for a job well done, a superb attendance record, or any other type of praise that you know the employee deserves, the results will always be appreciation from the employee. And he will try even hard to win more Employee Awards.
